How to place text behind an object using Canva's Magic Grab feature
A step-by-step Canva trick for fitness professionals to place bold text behind themselves in promo images using Magic Grab — perfect for class promotions, transformation posts, and branded social content that grabs attention and elevates your visual style.
Upload Your Photo
- Click Uploads in the left sidebar and upload your workout photo, progress shot, or choose one from your existing uploads.
Select the Photo and Use Magic Grab
- Click on your photo to select it.
- In the top toolbar, click Edit Photo → Magic Grab (this will detect the main subject).
- Once Magic Grab finishes processing, you’ll see options to refine the selection — like hair, body, or equipment.
Separate Yourself from the Background
- Click on the subject (yourself, a client, or a piece of equipment) and Canva will automatically separate it from the background.
Add Your Text
- Click Text on the left toolbar and add your session title, special offer, or motivational headline.
- To place the text behind you, select the text box and go to Position → Send Backward until it sits behind the subject.
Refine the Look
- Resize or reposition both your cutout and text for the best balance.
- Adjust the background — blur it slightly or switch to a brand color — to enhance contrast and make your design pop.
