Hashtags are one of the easiest ways to help new people discover your content. Using them strategically can boost your engagement and grow your audience.

Step 1: Understand What Hashtags Do

  • Hashtags categorize your content so people can find it.
  • Example: #FitnessTips makes your post discoverable to anyone searching that tag.
  • Using the right hashtags puts your post in front of the right audience.

Step 2: Choose the Right Hashtags

  1. Mix Popular and Niche Hashtags
    • Popular hashtags reach many people (#Fitness, #Travel), but competition is high.
    • Niche hashtags reach a smaller, more engaged audience (#HomeWorkoutTips, #StPeteFitness).
  2. Limit the Number
    • Instagram allows up to 30 hashtags per post, but 5–15 targeted hashtags often work best.
  3. Keep Them Relevant
    • Only use hashtags that actually relate to your post. Irrelevant tags can reduce engagement and hurt reach.

Step 3: Find Hashtags

  • Use Instagram search to explore hashtags in your niche.
  • Look at competitors’ or influencers’ posts for ideas.
  • Use TST’s AI tools or hashtag generators (if available) to find trending hashtags.

Step 4: Add Hashtags to Your Post

  • Place hashtags in your caption or in the first comment for a cleaner look.
  • Combine general, niche, and branded hashtags for best results.

Step 5: Track Performance

  • Use Instagram Insights to see which hashtags are driving engagement.
  • Adjust your hashtags over time based on what performs best.

Quick Tips:

  • Rotate hashtags for each post to avoid being repetitive.
  • Create a list of 3–5 sets of hashtags for easy use.
  • Pair hashtags with great visuals and captions — hashtags alone won’t make a post successful.
