Creating depth in your Canva designs makes them look more professional and dynamic. Using layers, you can place images or text in front of or behind other elements for a polished look.

Step 1: Prepare Your Image

  • If needed, remove the background from your image using Canva’s background remover.
  • Drag the image onto your design where you want it.

Step 2: Access Layer Options

  • Right-click the image and select Layer.
  • Use Bring Forward to move the image in front of other elements.
  • Use Send Backward to place it behind other elements.

Step 3: Fine-Tune the Placement

  • Hold Command (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows) to select images behind others for precise placement.
  • Adjust the positioning so that text remains readable and the design has visual depth.

Tip

Layering elements is a great way to:

  • Make text stand out behind images
  • Add depth to your design
  • Highlight key objects in multi-layered templates

By mastering layers, you can create visually engaging templates for Instagram, social media posts, and promotional content.
