The timeline: trimming, moving and re-timing clips

The timeline is at the bottom of the Reel Editor in Advanced mode. Everything in the reel is a block on it — a clip, a line of text, a song — and where the block sits is when it plays.

Reading it

• Ruler — time, left to right. Click it to move the playhead, the line that marks

what the preview is showing.

• Main — the track with your clips. They play one after another.
• Tracks above Main — text, images and shapes, drawn over the clips.
• Tracks below Main — music and other audio.
• Toolbar — add, split, duplicate and delete; on the right, snapping, Fit (see the

whole reel) and zoom.

Moving

Drag a block along its track to change when it plays. With snapping on, it clicks into place against the playhead and other blocks.

Trimming

Drag either end of a block to trim it. For a clip, that changes which part plays; for text, how long it stays on screen.

Splitting

Put the playhead where you want the cut, select the clip, and click Split in the toolbar. You get two clips you can trim, move or delete separately.

Transitions

Between two clips on Main there's a small button. Click it to pick a transition — a fade, a slide, a zoom. Click an existing one to Change Transition or Remove it.
